沃恩·威廉斯《塔利斯主題幻想曲》Williams: Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis
為了向對後世英國音樂影響巨大的前輩大師——文藝復興作曲家托馬斯·塔里斯致敬，沃恩·威廉斯創作了《托馬斯·塔利斯主題幻想曲》，並與《綠袖子主題幻想曲》等一起成為了其最著名的代表作。
這首弦樂曲的演奏員分為三部分，第一部分是標準的弦樂隊，第二部分由每個弦樂聲部中的幾人組成，第三部分是額外的一支弦樂四重奏。作曲家如此設計據說是為了發出管風琴般的宏偉音響。
能被印在郵票上，光這點就足以看出沃恩·威廉斯在英國人心目中的位置有多重要。 《塔利斯主題幻想曲》被博客裡的樂迷讚譽為“這是我餘生想要聽到的聲音”。在今年的名人堂榜單上，這部作品與去年的位置基本持平，僅下降了一位，排名第五。

拉赫瑪尼諾夫的《第二鋼琴協奏曲》可以說是絕大多數英國人最喜歡的古典樂之一了。根據Classic FM每年收到的選票來看，這首曲子自1996年名人堂創辦以來，始終是排行榜的冠亞軍常客。今年雖然跌出了前三甲，但也留在了第四的高位。

埃爾加《謎語變奏曲》Variations on an Original Theme, Op. 36, "Enigma"
《謎語變奏曲》是有“英國貝多芬”之稱的埃爾加的成名作，也是他最著名、最受人喜愛的管弦樂作品。曲子由主題和14段變奏曲組成，原題很樸實：《一個創作主題的變奏曲》。
埃爾加在每一段變奏前寫了一個名字或幾個縮寫字母，還在題詞裡說明將作品獻給“十四位朋友”，但又曖昧地寫了一句：“大家不用去猜這些暗語的含義。”而作曲家本人也從未正式回答過具體針對哪些人，所以叫做“謎語”。
自首演以來，喜愛《密語變奏曲》的樂迷們就無法停止猜測曲中字謎的含義的熱情。群眾的力量是強大的，當時的“謎語”雖然早已被全部解開，但人們依舊保持著對該曲的熱情。今年的名人堂榜單上，“密語”保持了去年季軍的榮譽之位。

貝多芬《第九交響曲》Beethoven: Symphony No.9 In D Minor, Op.125
貝多芬前後耗費數十年心血，音樂寫法與思想內涵均為當時空前之作的《第九交響曲》，是無數人心中最偉大的古典音樂作品。寄託全人類團結友愛、和平相處之美好希望的“歡樂頌”旋律經過時間洗禮，也愈髮美妙輝煌，且在200年後的今天更具有現實意義。
從今年名人堂榜單上進入前十的兩部貝多芬作品來看，“貝九”反超連續兩年皆第六的“皇帝協奏曲”，從去年的第八位上升六名之多，成為了今年的季軍。這一數據，或許也是英國古典樂聽眾對於“樂聖”250週年誕辰重視的一種體現吧。

沃恩·威廉斯《雲雀高飛》The Lark Ascending
《雲雀高飛》作於正值英國參與第一次世界大戰的1914年。值得一提的是，因為戰爭期間的一次路邊譜曲，沃恩·威廉斯被懷疑是間諜在用密碼記錄情報而被捕，不得不暫停了工作。
這部作品優美、惆悵、通俗，具有含蓄的古典審美趣味，是沃恩·威廉斯從George Meredith的同名詩歌中獲得靈感而作。直到1920年該曲才獲得首演，首演時，這部作品也從小提琴與鋼琴的形式變成了小提琴與樂隊。
不得不說，《雲雀高飛》當選Classic FM名人堂No.1，這顯然是只有英國人投票才會有的結果。而千萬不要以為這個結果是一次偶然，其實這已經是《雲雀高飛》第十次被名人堂評選為英國最受歡迎的古典音樂作品。它在2007年~2010年曾連續四年蟬聯榜首，2014年~2017年又四次蟬聯，2018敗給《1812序曲》後，又連續兩年問鼎冠軍。
《雲雀高飛》很早就被英國民眾當作英國音樂的精粹看待，因其優美柔和的旋律而屢獲殊榮。雲雀象徵自由和歡樂，是英國浪漫主義詩人最常用的意象之一，這或許也是作曲家在戰時創作該曲時最想要表達的內容吧。
